Well my car will be running again sometime in the not too distant future, but I may or not be driving it on the street any time too soon. My car is an '86 and won't have to pass emmisions testing in '11. I've been planning on adding a performance cat and headers after I get it running again. But with the car being less than 2 years away from not having to pass the sniffer I'm trying to figure out if it is worth $200 installed to have a magnaflow cat installed. If not then I will $200 ahead in my limited budget. But if not then I definetly won't be driving it on the roads for 2 years wether it's running or not. I think the cat is probably clogged, so I could just hollow it so that it will run well and reduce back pressure in the exhaust. Or I could put a cat on it and probably have it passing emmisions before this summer. I won't use the car for anything past street nights at the track and for cruising so the environmental impact will be next to nothing. Just not sure what to do. What do you guys think? Also, I could probably get the car to pass emmissions with a little dose of denatured alcohol in the gas tank when I take it to get inspected. It's a dilly of a pickle. :Dunno:

I know many people who have passed emissions without a cat installed. Personally on my car I do not have a cat but I am in MI and we dont have emissions here :D. If your worried about passing emissions I'd put the cat back exhaust on the $200 seems to be a good price. But since you havent got the car running yet and suspect a cloged cat I would just cut it off and see if the car will fire up! If it does then BAM a running 305 TPI and you can figure out the cat thing after that. If it still wont run by cutting of the cat then you know theres a different problem.

Yeah that's why I was thinking of unbolting the y pipe even though the collectors are a pain in the butt to reach and break loose. But if it has no effect then I can just bolt it back up instead have to weld the cat back on. ;);) But I am thinking I could probably make it pass with out the emmisions benefit of a working cat. Even if I have to "buy" a sticker.
