Man I just can't get my motor swap off and running, crap keeps coming up. The holidays kinda sucked, never home and spent a little too much cash on my son. Now my trucks inspection expired in december, but my back up light switch is out and I'm having to wait for that to come in b4 I can install. The switch and the inspection comes out to another $100 that I could of used to buy/rent an engine hoist. :angryfire:

Yeah I know but I'm getting restless. We had 70 degree weather today and its going to be near 80 tomorow, would love to be cruisin' with the t-tops off right now. Hell I may have to see what I can do with the 'ol 305 so I can just drive the darn thing for a while.

Oh come on 70 degrees! I look out my window and see 12 inches of snow! But get to work on that thing! In all seriousness it'll be worth the wait when you get the 350 done and in! Whats wrong with that 305? There's nothing wrong with putting a little work into that just so you can get out on the road and enjoy the car while you are building the other motor!

very good point there Darrenscamaro - if it's that warm in the winter, then the summer must melt your sunglasses to your head - but ya if the 305 doesn't need much put it in and then you can enjoy the ride and build the 350 the way you want it, with no hurries :rockon:

70's in January - trade-off = 108 in the summer and 95+ from mid June through September...it blows! I think we had 30 days 100 or over last summer and just as many 97-99. :( The 305 has a knock from sitting for so long when I had absolutely no cash to spend on it. But maybe I can find some miracle lube and turn the motor by hand and loosen it up, but probably not. But at this point I'm willing to give it a shot. BTW...we are going to have a high of about 30 tomorow, a 40 deg. difference is a little much to adust to in 1 day. Texas weather sucks.

I agree but i'd trade you 12 inches of snow for 90-100 degree weather right now! Hey and who knows 305's are work horses that thing may still have some life left in it! Its worth a shot and may be better then you think!

Yeah the 305 is definetly a solid motor. Hell its exactly the same thing as a 350 just with a different bore and stroke. I would actually like to see what I can get out of the old beast before I yank it. So hopefully I can get it going soon. Man we're going to have perfect weather this weekend too, hopefully I can work on it Saturday. If not it will have to wait since my old ass turned 30 today :old: And there is a family thing going on Sunday...

Thanks guys. I've got the battery here with me, charging. As soon as its done I'm heading out to my folks' house to see what she'll do and get my dads expert opinion. It's awesome having an ASE certified mechanic for a dad.

Well she wouldn't fire, but I'm more optimistic about the motor now than I was this morning. It cranks over fine but just won't quite fire up. I can hear the fuel pump prime itself when I turn the key to on and after cranking. So I'm thinking it is either: 1) fuel injectors gummed up from sitting 2) distributor may need to be getting weak and need to be redone except for the coil which is high power and relatively new or 3) the car needs a good kick in the ass to get going. I'm going to try #3 first by bringing a can of starting fluid and a bottle of turbo 108 to add to the fresh gas I put in it today. Could also be a clogged fuel filter. I guess #5 could also be a clogged catalytic converter since I think it may have been getting clogged the last several months I drove it. Talkin' it over with my pops we think I can get it running again, but I'll probably go through all of those things to make sure the car is on the up and up. And I figured out why it was knocking a couple months ago when I got it to crank. I got under it to change the oil and I noticed some of the old oil leaks still had fresh drops hanging from them. And when I changed the oil only about 2 quarts drained out . So with fresh oil and a bottle of Mystery Oil I'm pretty confident the knocks will go away once the motor is running and pumping oil. So hopefully the awesome weather will be here next weekend so I can try the turbo 108/starting fluid.
